Varanasi, one of India's fastest-growing spiritual and cultural destinations, currently generates approximately 1,012.64 tonnes of municipal solid waste every day, of which around 850 tonnes are collected and 750 tonnes are scientifically processed. The city's waste characterization indicates that about 10.2% (≈103 tonnes/day) consists of recyclable plastic, representing a significant resource that often remains underutilized due to inadequate segregation, fragmented collection systems, and limited value-chain integration.
